I was 13 and in the middle of a boyhood obsession with everything mummies, pyramids and Egypt. If it happened to the pharaohs, it was pretty much the coolest thing ever. So you can imagine how psyched I was when my parents decided to extend our summer vacation to Israel with an add-on trip to Egypt. Finally, I would walk on the Giza Plateau and see the Great Pyramids for myself!

While I could put a photo of a teenage me in this post, but instead I would rather highlight my awesome parents: Bonnie and Daniel Goodman. I owe them both a deep debt of gratitude for instilling a love of travel in me from a very young age. How many 13 year old kids are fortunate enough to spent their holidays in Egypt?

After reading an article on what it’s like to be a baby boomer in Egypt these days, I’m not so sure I want to go back and spoil my pristine childhood memory of the trip. Ahhh, who am I kidding. Going back to Egypt and seeing the pyramids and walking through the busy streets of Cairo is STILL super high on my to see list. And I wouldn’t mind going back to Israel as an adult too!

So one last time, thanks Mom and Dad!
