First I photograph
Then I create!
Thanks to modern technology, a photograph has unlimited potential.
In the digital darkroom, I can bend curves, layers, light, dark, and even the full color spectrum. Sometimes it’s just a matter of making an image pop. Other times, I find myself creating something completely new.
Using this concept, I am proud to offer my five selections for Travel Supermarket’s Capture the Color competition. They gave me five colors, and I had to choose an image that best exemplifies each one.
WHITE:
4 Square Buddha Head{Wat Tham Pha Chom
Mae Sai, Thailand}
I purposely overexposed the photo in-camera (top left square), then continued to tinker with curves and levels to create the final image.
Before getting into the other four colors, I’d like to send a huge thanks to Irina of Trips that Work for my nomination… and away we go…

GREEN: A Brown Leaf Buried in Ice

Even that which has been tossed away still has life in it
It was winter. The leaf was dead, brown, and below an inch of ice. But when I opened the image in Photoshop and pulled the curves way down, everything except these green pixels went away.

Figured I should have one straight-forward photo among my five. Who doesn’t love swimming in beautiful blue water. But man, this is extra blue!

RED: Monk Buying a Bus Ticket

Taken on a moving escalator, this photograph is both an example of capturing motion in-camera, then enhancing the image to bring out the most important subject – our friend the monk.

All people, regardless of where we live, have the same core needs and responsibilities. One of these needs is to get from here to there. And sometimes, the easiest way to do that is hailing a cab!
The Symmetry Project explores these core needs to paint a picture of how our lives are mirrored across the world.
