Photographers use all sorts of techniques to change the mood of an image.
For instance, while creating this landscape photograph of a rainy day in Jungsun, South Korea, I wanted to accentuate the misty and foggy atmosphere.
When the camera couldn’t properly convey the scene, I took a deep breath and exhaled on the front of my wide angle lens.

As you can see, the above “breathed-on” photograph is far more moody than the below one.
It also better represents the reality of the scene.

While modern technology allows us to make these changes digitally, there’s nothing quite like doing it in-camera.
