A Foggy Day at Yosemite National Park

A recent trip to California’s Yosemite National Park found Ansel Adams’ most famous places of inspiration shrouded in a dense fog that only got thicker the further up I went.

Upon arriving at Glacier Point, home of one of the most iconic views in entire place, I found that there was a wall of white and gray separating me from a view of Half Dome, Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls.

However, the fog was fast-moving with a few breaks here and there and at one point happened to break in a circular pattern right around Nevada Falls.

. . .

Color vs Black and White

While I shot this photograph in full color, there was barely anything but grays and whites in the image so I used Photoshop to convert it to a traditional Black & White.

At first I was more than a bit irritated at the weather conditions that prevented me from getting more traditional “blue sky” photos of Yosemite, but now looking back at my captures from that weekend I could not be happier with the moody and unique shots.

Revisiting the Experience 11 Years Later

“Um – I’m pretty sure there’s a waterfall behind those clouds,” I thought to myself. ☁️

“Not sure where … but it’s there.”

Wait for it …

Keep waiting …

There it is!

Oh, wow … thank you, fog!

You want to create a complete circle of visibility around Nevada Falls for all of 5 seconds while I make this photo?

Then, you’ll go back to being a solid wall of fog?

Sounds good to me!
