CITYSCAPES
From bustling metropolises to small towns, remote villages and everything in between, let's explore the notion of a "city"

LANDMARKS & RUINS

What constitutes a landmark? In some cities, it’s a castle, skyscraper or ancient ruin. In others, it could be as simple as “that tree we like to meet under.”

When was the last time you did something that really scared you?

Yesterday, I had to go up onto the roof to clean the solar panels.

My heart was racing the whole time.

Maybe it’s because I grew up in New York City, but roofs were not a part of my childhood.

Nor were they a part of my adulthood until yesterday.

The solar panels are close to the edge, which meant that I had about 2 feet of wiggle room to balance myself, spray a hose, and use rags to clean off the panels.

Bodhi was down below asking if he could come up.

I explained to him that I was scared enough with just me up there and that I didn’t want him to come up and add to my fear.

I think it’s important for our children to know that their parents get scared.

To know that it’s OK to get scared.

That it’s OK to feel any emotion.

Because let’s be honest, our kids see us experience the full range of emotions.

To tell them that we don’t is an obvious lie.

My kids see when I get angry.

They see me when I leave the room to go pound a pillow or scream out my frustrations.

They see me when I don’t manage to leave the room before responding in a way that I wish I hadn’t.

They see me when I go into I spiral of self shame.

They hear the words coming out of my mouth, even if I think I’m hiding them.

Our children are sponges.

That’s why it’s so important to have an open, honest conversation with them (and with ourselves) about our feelings.

It’s like I always tell my kids, “everything you feel is OK.”

“ Feelings are a part of life. They come and they go. And we can choose how to respond to them.”

That’s the real mindfulness practice - taking a breath and being able to respond instead of react.

To let the tidal wave of emotions pass over you while you gently hang out underwater.

it’s a constant work in progress.

So I ask the question again.

When was the last time you were scared?

As I got out of the car and saw the sunlight, I knew I had to take a picture of some thing.

Anything.

But what?

I was supposed to meet Carrie and the kids on the beach in about two minutes, so there was no time to find the perfect shot.

So, I walked to the beach, ready to take whatever I could find.

Maybe a silhouette?

Maybe a Sunburst?

Maybe some foot prints in the sand?

Or, maybe nothing at all.

Picking up the kids so Carrie could get to her healing on time was more important than any photo that I might or might not share on the internet.

As I arrived on the beach, I saw the shot I wanted.

Sun ✔️
Sand ✔️
Silhouette ✔️

And, as an added bonus, the people who were walking in front of the sun just so happened to be my darling family!

In an instant, my photo went from some random thing to post online— to one of my new favorite family photos!

What’s extra cool is that Carrie used a version of this photo on her Instagram to share a beautiful story about her own personal growth.

“Let me tell you a story.”

Storytelling means so many things to so many people.

At the core, it's very primal.

An ancient art.

Sitting around a fire 🔥 telling tales of the latest hunt.

Passing down generational knowledge.

Sharing epic tales through song and dance.

All that good stuff.

In our digital world, it's more visual.

Photographic Storytelling combines powerful imagery with an effective narrative.

On social media, that means using short lines of text that flow together.

Perhaps a handful of words.

Maybe two.

Then, you can make a longer sentence that draws someone in — and use dashes to combine two sentences that share a common theme.

The dash is a nice visual touch; it’s more appealing than a semicolon.

Once someone is intrigued, it’s time to stimulate the five senses.

A reader should taste your PB&J sandwich.

They should feel the peanut butter sticking to the roof of their mouth.

Smell the jelly as it comes out of the jar.

Hear the rustle of the bread bag.

See their hands putting the sandwich into their mouth.

Then, if you have a photo of you taking a big bite out of the sandwich, even better.

OK, now I'm hungry!

I wonder what I should eat .......

Last night, I played poker (online) with some friends I haven’t seen in a while. The first question someone asked was, “I always see you posting stuff online, but what exactly do you do?!”

I help online business owners
get more leads, clients, and sales
with a kickass, authentic personal brand
that stands out in a busy online crowd.

AND

I run a marketing and web design agency (@GoodmanCreatives)

AND

I coach/mentor highly-motivated biz owners.

AND

I am a network marketer with an awesome online educational platform that teaches conscious entrepreneurs how to grow secondary income streams and create financial and time freedom by aligning with a very specific offer. (The Freedom Era)

AND

I am a marketing director for a company of 45 therapists in San Francisco. (Well Clinic)

AND

I am a marketing director for a awesome photo lab in San Francisco (Dickerman Prints)

AND

I am a photographic storyteller, (Adventures of a GoodMan), artist, dad, husband, and human being dedicated to personal growth and making the world a better place.

Now you know.

And yea, this is what I would look like with a full head of hair. 😂

Sometimes, I get completely and totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of things that need to be done.

I also understand that overwhelm is a choice.

So how do I “choose” away my overwhelm?

That’s what I’m dedicating myself to these days.

And let me tell you ...

Self-improvement is a full time job!

Just what I need.

One more thing on my plate. 😂🤪

Dad
Husband
Photographic Storyteller
Business owner
Marketing director for a company of therapists …

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

I’ve been doing Goodman Creatives for 6 years now — helping biz owners with marketing, web design, branding, and coaching.

Recently, I added network marketing to my resume.

I’m determined to do it in an authentic way.

To be the face of my offer.

To be the one providing the value.

To be a coach for everyone who joins.

To practice what I preach and create a funnel instead of just handing people off to someone else’s webinar.

While I figure out my funnel, I’m focusing on attraction marketing.

Aka, organic FB marketing.

That means creating a nonstop stream of social media content.

It’s really fun.

I love it.

My process drives my personal growth.

Sharing my truth makes me happy — and, it inspires other people to share theirs and make a positive change in the world.

I look forward to the day when I can do this full time.

When I can focus on myself for a change.

When I can spend all day creating things the fuel my own passions - rather than doing work for someone else — (even if it’s through my own biz)

🌈 WHAT’S NEXT??? 🌈

For the first time, I’m doing all the things I’ve been coaching clients on for years.

Marketing.
Personal branding.
Building an audience.
Creating authentic connections.

Sharing because it’s the right thing to do - regardless of a sale.

I’ve learned so much in the 4 months since I joined this online learning platform.

I feel inspired every day.

Now, I want to teach other online business owners how to do it.

That’s why I’m developing a webinar on personal branding.

Yes, I just gave myself one more thing that demands my attention.

Wanna watch it when it’s done?

I love experimenting with apps and integrating the best ones into my business workflow.⁣
⁣
But it wasn’t always like that. For decades, “buying software” meant a huge investment upfront – followed by sizeable upgrade fees every year.⁣
⁣
Enter the SaaS subscription market. — Someone figured out that by charging an affordable monthly rate, out-of-reach software suddenly became democratized. Everyone could afford Photoshop and Lightroom, because they were just $10/month.⁣
⁣
However, this affordable software model quickly leads to a new financial burden known as “app creep.” As in, “before you know it, all the small apps have created a big monthly credit card bill. It’s an epidemic these days.⁣
⁣
To help you avoid a business appidemic (see what I did there?), here’s a list of all my go-to apps.⁣
⁣
✅ 7 Apps I can’t live without⁣
✅ 4 Apps that help make money⁣
✅ 4 Apps that make the leads flow in⁣
✅ 5 Apps that make it all work⁣
✅ 3 Advertising Apps ⁣

Have you ever noticed a little lock icon and the word “secure” next to a URL in your web browser?⁣
⁣
When you see that, it means that the site has an added layer of security called an SSL certificate. ⁣
⁣
You also may notice that the URL begins with https instead of http. The extra “S” is for “secure.”⁣
⁣
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a way of encrypting websites to make them safer and less hackable. ⁣
⁣
It establishes an encrypted link between the website and your browser, which allows all data transferred to remain private.⁣
⁣
To create this added layer of security, your website needs to have an SSL Certificate installed.⁣
⁣
For e-commerce websites — or anywhere that you provide personal information — having an SSL has long been a requirement. However, most informational websites could get away with not using one … until a few years ago.⁣

There’s nothing quite like travel to help you grow as a person.⁣
⁣
From the highs to the lows, leaving your comfort zone behind opens new doors into personal insight. ⁣
⁣
What’s really amazing is how those lessons can be interpreted in so many different ways.⁣
⁣
For instance, I’m about to take five things I learned while traveling – and spin them into a lesson about running your own business. ⁣
⁣
So grab your passports and let’s start the journey.⁣
⁣
1. Always hire the local guide.⁣
⁣
2. Just because something is famous doesn’t mean it’s worth seeing.⁣
⁣
3. The best camera is the one you have with you.⁣
⁣
4. Try every food you see – no matter how strange.⁣
⁣
5. When you go for cheap, you get what you pay for.⁣
⁣
CURIOUS to see how I spin that into a business lesson?⁣

I say YES! over and over again for 1 minute, 11 seconds - every day @ 1:11pm PST⁣⁣

You should join me.⁣⁣

My dream is to have the whole world do it together.⁣⁣

Imagine the power of so many people saying YES! at the same time.⁣⁣Let's unite to spread joy, love, positivity, and YES!⁣⁣⁣

Let's create a wave of YES! that ripples around the globe.

⁣⁣⁣YES!⁣⁣

»»»» How to maximize your YES!⁣⁣

1. SET AN ALARM⁣
I suggest finding out what time 1:11pm PST is in your time zone. That way, you know that at least one other person is doing it at the same time! (me, of course).⁣⁣

2. BRING THE FAM⁣
Kids LOVE doing this practice with you. Make it a family event. Come together for a moment of YES!⁣⁣

*** Warning – You may feel silly. You may want to stop. That’s normal. There’s a security system at the edge of your comfort zone. Allow the feelings to be there – then YES! your way through them.

Do you know what I love most about therapists?⁣
⁣
You don’t hold your punches when calling me out on my BS.⁣
⁣
This truth was recently reinforced by a therapist’s response to a marketing email I sent. ⁣
⁣
The question she posed shook me to my core – and gave me plenty to think (and write) about.⁣

Here’s the story.⁣

A 30×30″ photographic C-print of "25 Cents, Local Calls" was on display during an exhibition in Brooklyn, New York City.⁣
⁣
This was my artist's statement from the exhibition:⁣
⁣
A lifetime of travel has taught me that all people have the same universal needs and responsibilities.⁣
⁣
To illustrate these global symmetries, I’ve created collages featuring photos of the same thing taken around the world.⁣
⁣
The shape of the collage is determined by the universal need itself.⁣
⁣
"25 Cents, Local Calls" was one of four large prints I created as part of The Symmetry Project.⁣
